About Smyrna, DE
Smyrna is a small city located in Central Delaware, 5 miles inland from Delaware Bay. Originally called Duck Creek Cross Roads, it was a shipping center along Duck Creek and was the most important port between Wilmington and Lewes. Ships of grain, lumber, tanbark and other produce pass through to points north. When the shipping industry collapsed in the 1850s, the town remained an agricultural center.
Although Smyrna still has this small-town vibe, more stores and fast-food restaurants are continuously populating the area.
